Hoff Parquet was commissioned to design, supply, and install top quality ash wood flooring for a private residential property in the prestigious Morningside area of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. The client’s brief focused on achieving a clean, contemporary interior with natural warmth, wide plank proportions, and long-term durability across multiple floors.

Our brief extended beyond flooring alone and included the complete design and manufacture of a bespoke ash wood staircase cladding, crafted specifically for a curved stair structure, as well as refined architectural details on the upper levels.



Engineered Ash Wood Flooring – Specification


For this project, we supplied top-quality engineered ash wide plank wood flooring, carefully selected for stability, performance, and aesthetic balance.


Flooring specification:

  • Total thickness: 16 mm

  • Top layer: 4 mm solid European ash

  • Plank width: 280 mm

The White Ash finish was chosen for its elegant, light appearance and subtle grain expression. It enhances natural daylight, creates a sense of openness, and remains highly practical for everyday residential use due to its durable protective finish and ease of maintenance.




Ground & First Floor Installation


The ash wood flooring was installed across both the ground floor and first floor, ensuring visual continuity throughout the home.

  • Subfloor preparation: Plywood base subfloor, installed and levelled to industry best practice

  • Installation method: Full glue-down system

  • Adhesives: Professional-grade flexible wood flooring adhesives Stauf. 


This installation method allows the engineered ash boards to accommodate natural movement while providing a solid, quiet, and stable floor, ideal for wide plank formats and long plank lengths.



Bespoke Curved Ash Staircase Cladding


A central feature of this project was the curved staircase, which required a fully bespoke solution.


Hoff Parquet:

  • Designed each element to follow the staircase geometry

  • Produced custom ash components in our workshop

  • Supplied and installed precision-fitted stair cladding


The result is a seamless transition between floors, with the staircase visually integrated into the overall flooring concept. The White Ash finish ensures tonal consistency while highlighting the craftsmanship of the curved forms.




Second Floor Hallway – Shadow Gap & Lighting Detail


On the second-floor hallway, the installation was elevated with refined architectural detailing:

  • Shadow gap perimeter detailing, creating a floating visual effect and clean wall-to-floor junctions

  • Foot-height ambient lighting, enhancing evening atmosphere and subtly accentuating the ash wood grain

This combination delivers a modern, high-end finish while maintaining timeless appeal.
